UPDATED: UN Security Council to Convene on Israel’s request

The United Nations Security Council will be meeting on Sunday after Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Gilad Erdan, requested the council to condemn Iran’s attack on Israel. Israel is also requesting to designate the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps a terrorist organization.
The meeting will take place at 4 p.m. ET (2000 GMT).
Malta currently chairs the UN’s top decision-making body. Vanessa Frazier, Malta’s UN ambasador, said the meeting was requested by Israel.
In a separate letter to Frazier, Iran defended itself, saying it acted in “self-defence as outlined in Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, and in response to the Israel’s recurring military aggression”.
