The US is advising its citizens to avoid all international travel due to the coronavirus pandemic, while those who are abroad have been told to arrange their immediate return home.

In a global level four health advisory issued by the state department on Thursday, those US citizens who are temporarily abroad were told to come back unless they were “prepared to remain abroad for an indefinite period”.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump said an anti-malaria drug that could help fight coronavirus could be available in the US within days.

The president said hydroxychloroquine, which is also used for severe arthiritis, lupus and autoimmune condition Sjrogen’s syndrome, has shown “very encouraging early results” and is set to be approved for coronavirus use quickly.

“We’re going make that drug available almost immediately…it could be available in days,” he said.

“It’s a medical war, we have to win this war.”
