US-Maltese collaboration to defeat COVID-19

The U.S. Embassy is to partner with Maltese company Invent 3D in its innovative project to produce face shields to help health workers stay safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.  The U.S. Embassy made its 3D printers available to Invent 3D for the realization of this project.

David Sciberras, Invent 3D director, designed a do-it-yourself face shield which is available to download and print free-of-charge.  Many local hobbyists volunteered to print the shields, which are then assembled by Invent 3D with Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) sheet and strap.

Commenting on this positive collaborative effort, Mark A. Schapiro, U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires, said, “We’re excited to be partnering with Invent 3D, incorporating our 3D printers into the growing effort across Malta to crowd-source production of face shields to help health worker safety!”
