US wants all the money made from Edward Snowden’s memoir

The U.S. Justice Department filed a lawsuit the same day against Snowden, a former CIA employee who leaked classified information from the NSA in 2013.

The lawsuit is centered on Snowden publishing the memoir without approval, which the Justice Department is alleging violates non-disclosure agreements Snowden signed with the government, , adding that speeches given by Snowden also violated nondisclosure agreements.

Snowden has just published his memoir, “Permanent Record,” without submitting it to intelligence agencies for review. In 2013, Snowden wrote “Everything You Know about the Constitution is Wrong.”

The United States is seeking all proceeds earned by Snowden for the book, the Justice Department said. The lawsuit also names the “corporate entities” behind the book’s publication as nominal defendants.

Snowden has lived in Russia since he revealed details of U.S. intelligence agencies’ secret surveillance programs.

Though he is viewed by some as a hero, U.S. authorities want him to stand in a criminal trial over his disclosures of classified information.
