The Libya Observer reports that the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Hisham Bushkiwat, said that the option of closing Mitiga Airport is on the table if the targeting of the airport continues.
“The expansion and maintenance work at the airport had stopped, after the departure of the executing company, due to frequent attacks on the airport by Haftar’s militias,” Bushkiwat said in a press statement.
The ministry condemned the indiscriminate shelling of the airport on Sunday, which caused the injury of a number of engineers at the airport and the damaging of an Afriqiyah Airways plane.
The Libya Observer reported that the attacks also created panic among travelers especially elders, where some of them were knocked unconscious.
