Violent incidents between squatters and police in Rome

Police evicting anticapitalistic and anarchist squatters from a former school on the outskirts of Rome were showered with objects from the windows on Monday.

The incidents took place in via Cardinal Capranica, in Rome’s outlying Primavalle district.

The police responded to the aggressive behaviour with water cannon.
Squatters also set on fire a pile of rubbish near the building that was eventually put out by fire fighters.

After many tense moments, the police eventually entered the building and the squatters left it.
