Wizz Air to offer Starlink in-flight internet from 2027

Budget airline Wizz Air said on Monday it will begin offering Starlink satellite internet across its fleet from next year, becoming the first European ultra-low-cost carrier to introduce the service.

The airline did not disclose the financial terms of its agreement with Starlink, the satellite internet network operated by SpaceX.

The announcement comes as SpaceX, Starlink’s parent company, is preparing for a public listing later this week.

The move highlights Wizz Air’s efforts to enhance its onboard services at a time when some rival low-cost carriers have raised concerns about the costs associated with satellite-based in-flight connectivity.

Executives at competitors including Ryanair and easyJet have previously warned that implementing Starlink technology could be expensive. Ryanair chief executive Michael O’Leary has estimated that using Starlink could cost the airline as much as $250 million annually, including additional fuel expenses.

Starlink, the world’s largest satellite operator, has already secured agreements with several U.S. airlines, including American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines and Alaska Airlines. It has also partnered with long-haul carriers such as Singapore Airlines and Emirates.

The announcement comes ahead of Wizz Air’s full-year results due on Thursday. In May, the airline said it expected to break even or post a slightly positive profit for its 2026 financial year, which ended on March 31.

Wizz Air also reported 26% passenger growth in May and forecast strong revenue growth during the summer season, saying its comparatively lower fares were helping offset consumer uncertainty linked to the war involving Iran.
