56 killed and 200 injured in stampede erupting at Iranian general funeral procession (UPDATED)

Iranian state TV says at least 56 people have been killed and more than 200 injured in a stampede at the funeral procession for General Qassem Soleimani, who was killed in a US drone strike.

The TV network says the stampede erupted in Kerman, the hometown of Soleimani where the procession was underway on Tuesday. Iranian media originally said 35 people had been killed.

According to AP news the state TV says the stampede happened in Kerman, which is hometown of Gen. Qassem Soleimani. This happened during the procession was underway on Tuesday.

On Monday over 1 million people attended a procession held at the Iranian capital, crowding both main thoroughfares and side streets in Tehran.
