737 people die in UK with coronavirus on Easter Sunday

Easter Sunday provided no respite in the United Kingdom as another 737 persons lost their lives in UK hospitals, according to the Department of Health. 10,612 persons have lost their lives so far. These figures exclude people who are sadly passing away in nursing homes.

While the nation breathed a collective sigh of relief as PM Boris Johnson was dismissed from hospital after contracting the virus, debate in the country was dominated with concerns that the elderly in nursing homes and their staff have been forgetting during this crisis.

Another controversy related to the lack of personal protective equipment for health workers on the frontline. Pressed with this accusation, Health Minister Matt Hancock replied that he doesn’t “quite agree with that”.  He insisted that the country had enough stockpiles but admitted that distribution and replenishment were a challenge.

Hancock also announce a new NHS app for contact tracing. The Minister explained that “if you become unwell with the symptoms of coronavirus, you can securely tell this new NHS app and the app will then send an alert anonymously to other app users that you’ve been in significant contact with over the past few days, even before you had symptoms, so that they know and can act accordingly.”
