The Head of a local primary school has penned a heartfelt letter to all her students, three weeks after the schools in Malta closed their doors for the rest of the year due to coronavirus. In her letter, Ms Azzopardi expressed her feelings regarding the closure of the primary school in Żebbbuġ.
Ms Azzopardi opened her letter by speaking of her disappointment about the sudden way in which they all had to leave each other following the closure of all schools in Malta and Gozo, which will open their doors again for a new scholastic year in September. She said that while the teachers and children are working together thanks to online work, this is only one aspect of school life, albeit an important one. The Head spoke of the missed experiences for the rest of the year, a mixture of happy and sad stories which enrich the daily school life, creating a community made up of teachers and children.
The headmistress said she wishes that she was still at school, welcoming the children every day as they come to start a new day, sharing assembly together, and listening to the voices of the children in their classes through the day. At the same time, she spoke about her colleagues, teachers and other members of staff who are so dedicated, working together every day with the students. Mrs Azzopardi spoke about various activities that the school was planning for the rest of the year – so much preparation, commitment and excitement shared by the children and their educators, which will not be organised. She said that while these activities require a lot of hard work, she would rather go back to the days when they were living their normal schooldays, moving forward from one project to the next until school breaks up for the summer holidays.
She ended her letter with a greeting to all her students, while promising them that once they go back to school in September, she looks forward to celebrating their return as a family. She reminded the children to behave and to do their work, ending her letter on a positive note by reminding them that they can still live their lives in the safety of their homes with their families.

Għeżież tfal,
Bħal-lum 3 ġimgħat ilu kienet l-aħħar ġurnata tagħna fl-iskola għal din is-sena skolastika. Lanqas nemmen li diġà għaddew dawn il-ġranet kollha. Konna qed nittamaw li nerġgħu niltaqgħu f’April wara l-vaganzi tal-Għid, però issa kulħadd jaf li s-sena skolastika 2019-2020 kellha tieqaf ħesrem u baqa’ sa Settembru biex nirritornaw lura l-iskola. Għadna għaddejjin bit-tagħlim permezz tal-komunikazzjoni virtwali, imma dak ifisser biss tagħlim akkademiku. Għalkemm it-tagħlim akkademiku huwa l-qofol tat-tagħlim li jsir fl-iskola, miegħu jkun hemm ħafna u ħafna esperjenzi. Esperjenzi li jferrħuna, xi drabi esperjenzi ta’ swied il-qalb, esperjenzi li jkabbruna, esperjenzi li jressquna aktar qrib ta’ xulxin.
Nimmissja t-tbissima tat-tfal deħlin kull filgħodu filwaqt li jgħidulek “Bonġu, Ms Azzopardi”. Nimmissja l-ispecial assemblies, il-mużika tar-rehearsals, il-kant tal-kor, il-bikja żgħira taċ-ċkejknin li għadhom kif bdew Kinder, l-għajjat tat-tfal waqt il-brejk, it-tgħanniqa tat-tfal qabel imorru d-dar fl-aħħar tal-ġurnata. Nimmissja wkoll il-kuntatt mal-kollegi, l-għalliema, KGEs, LSEs, segretarji u staff anċillari – għaliex fl-iskola aħna nsiru familja waħda kbira.
Kellna ħafna pjanijiet – Jum iċ-Ċelebrazzjoni, Dramm tal-Passjoni, Kinder Sports Day, Jum San Filep, Healthy Pizza Day, ritratti tal-klassijiet, it-Talent Show tat-tfal tas-sitt sena u ħafna aktar. U waqt li qed nikteb nirrealizza kemm hu aħjar l-iskola, għaddejjin bi proġett wieħed wara l-ieħor b’nifisna maqtugħ.
Xtaqt li għidtilkom saħħa fi tmiem is-sena b’mod aħjar, bħalma nagħmlu s-soltu. Xtaqt għannaqtkom waħda. Ma jimpurtax, la nidħlu lura nagħmlu tgħanniqa kbira, u niċċelebraw ir-ritorn tagħna fl-iskola. Jiddispjaċini immens għat-tfal tat-sitt sena, li spiċċaw is-snin tal-primarja b’dan il-mod, però nwegħedkom li hekk kif jgħaddi kollox nerġa’ nistedinkom biex flimkien niċċelebraw is-suċċessi tagħkom fl-iskola tagħna.
Tfal, emmnu fikom infuskom, obdu dejjem lill-ġenituri tagħkom, lin-nanniet u liz-zijiet. Agħmlu x-xogħol li jibagħtulkom l-għalliema. Aqraw ftit kuljum. Pinġu, kantaw, iżfnu, ilagħbu – għalkemm qegħdin ġod-dar kollox jista’ jsir.
