Research enters last phase – Only 4m of soil between rescuers and the place where Julen is believed to be

The final stage of a mission to rescue a 2-year-old boy who fell down a well in southern Spain 11 days ago began on Thursday. Miners descended a parallel shaft from which point they will tunnel their way to the child.

Julen fell down the 25-cm-wide well on January 13, as his family walked through a private estate in Totalan, Malaga. After descending the rescue shaft around, members of the Hunosa Mine Rescue Brigade will need to tunnel through 4m of earth to where the child is believed to be.
