Venezuela’s Guaido set to return home today

Deutsche Welle (DW) reported that Juan Guaido, Venezuela’s interim president and leader of the Opposition, is expected back to his home country today from Ecuador.

His return is set to coincide with his call for protests during Monday and Tuesday’s Carnival celebrations. Guaido had left the country in defiance of a travel ban.

DW said that his return would likely result in his arrest for violating a court-imposed travel ban ordering him not to leave the country.

During his absence from Venezuela, Guaido also visited the leaders of Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina to rally support and build pressure on Venezuela’s acting president, Nicolas Maduro, to resign.

Guaido did not comment on the exact timing of his planned return to the crisis-ridden South American country. However, his spokesman said it was possible that he would return on Monday during the country’s Carnival celebrations.
