Indications of a landslide for Dulkiewicz in Gdańsk mayoral ballot

The Polish media is reporting that early indications from Gdańsk, are showing that Aleksandra Dulkiewicz (photo above), acting mayor of Gdańsk, has gained 82-percent support in Sunday’s elections for the city’s mayor.

If the partial data is consistent with the total results, the 39-year-old lawyer and local government member will win the ballot in the first round.

An exit poll carried out by website Trojmiasto.pl indicated that Dulkiewicz is backed by 84 percent of voters. Filmmaker Grzegorz Braun is second on 12 percent and Catholic activist and entrepreneur Marek Skiba is in third position with 4 percent.

The early ballot was held after former city mayor Paweł Adamowicz died on January 14 from severe wounds inflicted a day earlier in a knife attack during a high-profile annual charity fundraiser.
