Easter Sunday attacks in Sri Lanka start to leave impact on tourism

Sri Lankan Airlines’ chief executive Visual Gunatilleka said on Monday that the carrier had a 10 percent increase in cancellations last week and expects that number to go up.

He was speaking to Reuters in Dublin at a travel conference in reference to the April 21 attacks on hotels and churches that killed more than 250 people.

Sri Lanka’s Tourism Bureau Chairman Kishu Gomes added that tourist arrivals in Colombo will fall by 50 percent over the next two months following the Easter Sunday bombings that killed more than 250 people.

Tourist arrivals in areas outside Colombo will also go down by about 30 percent following the bombings, he told reporters at a travel conference in Dubai.
