Chancellor Kurz to call snap election after Vice Chancellor resignation following corruption scandal

Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz announced on Saturday that the country would have fresh elections in the wake of a major scandal involving nowformer-Vice Chancellor Heinz-Christian Strache.

“Enough is enough,” said Chancellor Kurz, withdrawing his party from government.

Austrian Vice Chancellor Heinz-Christian Strache announced his resignation on Saturday after footage published by German newspapers appeared to show him discussing state contracts with a potential Russian backer in exchange for political support.
