John Bercow, the speaker of Britain’s House of Commons, plans to stay on despite previous expectations he was about to leave.
The speaker told the Guardian it was not “sensible to vacate the chair” while there were such major issues before parliament and insisted that he never said anything about going in July of this year.
The clarification of his position will enrage hard-Brexit Conservatives who had once expected his departure to ease their task in the months ahead of the 31 October deadline.
