Haftar’s forces lose control of Murzuq in southern Libya

Libyan media reported that forces loyal to Libyan commander Khalifa Haftar have lost control of the strategic town of Murzuq in southern Libya after two weeks of deadly clashes.

The Libyan Observer reports that Murzuq has been suffering from disastrous humanitarian conditions since the start of clashes that killed over 90 and injured over 200 people, according to UN organizations’ reports.

The Presidential Council accused earlier Haftar’s forces of fuelling tribal tensions since arriving in the town of Murzuq in last February as they backed Al-Ahali against Tubu who then rebelled against Al-Ahali as Haftar’s forces left Murzuq toward Tripoli in last April.

The Libyan Express meanwhile, reports that a Tubu tribal source said that on Saturday, Haftar’s warplanes struck different areas in Murzuq leaving behind several people killed and wounded from both sides of the clashes.
