Photo Story: 15th anniversary of Beslan hostage tragedy

People form the name ‘Beslan’ with candles lit during a commemoration ceremony on the Nevsky prospect in St. Petersburg, Russia, on the night of the 03 September 2019.

Russians on 03 September commemorated the bloody end to the Beslan hostage tragedy 15 years ago when Islamist gunmen took more than 1,100 people hostages in a school in Russia’s North Caucasus, in what would become the region’s most horrific terrorist attack.

Some 334 people, 186 of them children, were killed and more than 800 injured in the three-day siege of the school in Beslan, most of them when special forces stormed the premises on 03 September.
