Sunak’s early departure from D-Day celebrations attracts criticism, forces apology

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has issued an apology after leaving the D-Day 80th anniversary commemoration early to participate in a pre-recorded interview.

Sunak's governing Conservatives, currently trailing in the polls ahead of the 4 July election, have attempted to portray main opponent Keir Starmer as a threat to the UK's national security.

The PM and his party have consistently accused Labour of not being proud enough of the country's history and status as a major international military power.
