The mystery of the Monster of Florence reopens as unknown DNA found

The investigation into the Monster of Florence (Il Mostro di Firenze) has been reopened due to the discovery of an unknown DNA on a bullet used in the 1985 murders of Nadine Mauriot and Jean Michel Kraveichvili, the last known victims of the infamous serial killer.

This DNA was also found on bullets from two other double homicides linked to the case. The discovery by hematologist Lorenzo Iovino could lead to new investigations and comparisons with evidence from past suspects.

The Monster of Florence is the name commonly used by the Italian media for a serial killer active within the Metropolitan City of Florence between 1968 and 1985.

The Monster murdered 16 victims, usually young couples secluded in search of intimacy, in wooded areas during new moons.Several connected persons have been convicted for involvement in the murders, yet the exact sequence of events, the identity of the main actor and the motives remain unclear. Multiple weapons were used in the murders, including a .22 caliber Beretta handgun and a knife, and in half of the cases, a large portion of the skin surrounding sex organs was excised from the bodies of the female victims.
