CBM revises growth prospects upwards

The Central Bank has revised its GDP growth forecasts for Malta upwards, projecting 4.9% growth in 2024, followed by 3.6% in 2025 and 2026, and 3.4% in 2027. This marks an improvement compared to its previous estimates. The revision reflects updated national accounts data, particularly for 2023. Growth is expected to be driven by rising domestic demand and a gradual recovery in private investment, with net exports also contributing, though to a lesser extent. Unemployment is forecast to remain just above 3%, with a tight labour market supporting wage increases. (Times of Malta)

Scott says ‘Do not visit Malta’ comment was a joke

Ridley Scott has clarified his recent remark about Malta, stating that his comment about the country being a poor holiday destination was “an attempt at humour that unfortunately missed the mark.” The Gladiator II director described Malta as “a jewel in the Mediterranean” and expressed his eagerness to return. Scott, 87, is a renowned filmmaker with four of his movies—White Squall, Gladiator, Gladiator II, and Napoleon—filmed primarily in Malta. The controversy arose after Scott told fellow director Christopher Nolan during an interview that while Malta is rich in architecture, he “wouldn’t advise going there on holiday,” eliciting laughter from the audience.
