Athletics Malta launches National Road Running League 2025-2026

Athletics Malta has launched the Malta National Road Running League for 2025-2026, which will once again feature six races with the involvement of local clubs in the organisation of the events.

This series, which crowns Malta’s road running individual and club champions, will include three 5km races and three 10km races in different localities, with one race on each distance also doubling up as the National Championship for that distance. All races will take place on routes which have been certified by World Athletics, a factor which adds to the quality of the race but also ensures that any timings achieved would be considered valid for the purposes of national and age category records as well for qualification standards for international events.

For another season, Athletics Malta will open the Road Running League Series to all enthusiasts, allowing amateur and recreational runners to compete alongside established athletes and earn participation medals across official competitions. The classification will be compiled at the end of the series using a scoring system for those who take part in at least four series races.

The league will start on 26th October with a 10km race hosted by Pembroke Athleta in Marsascala, followed by a 5km race hosted by La Salle AC in Zabbar on 9th November. Athletics Malta will be hosting a 10km race in Ta’ Qali on 18th January, serving as the National Championship on the distance. On 8th March, Corsa will host another 10k race, this time in Ta’ Xbiex. 19th April will feature Athletics Malta’s 5km race, in Ta’ Qali, also serving as the National Championship on the distance. The league will reach its climax on 3rd May as Mellieħa AC host the Sliema to Pieta’ 5km race.

Evolve Endurance Club will be aiming to defend their men’s Road Running title for a third consecutive year, while Pembroke Athleta look to continue their stronghold in the women’s category. In the individual categories, reigning champions Simon Spiteri (St Patrick’s) and Lisa Bezzina (Pembroke) are expected to face stiff competition as they seek to retain their titles.

Further information on the respective races will be available on Athletics Malta’s social media platforms.
