Veteran TV journalist and presenter Massimo Giletti was reportedly assaulted on the streets of Rome last Thursday while preparing a segment for the programme Lo Stato delle Cose on Rai 3.
Eyewitness footage shows Giletti approaching a man, initially reluctant to speak, then delivering a punch at the journalist.

According to Giletti, the man in question is an ex-secret services agent who was recently heard by the parliamentary commission investigating the disappearance of Emanuela Orlandi. The assault occurred shortly after Giletti attempted to question him about why the uncle of Orlandi, Mario Meneguzzi — previously the subject of a police tail — had allegedly been warned about police surveillance.
Giletti recounted that he had asked repeatedly: “Why did the services warn him that Meneguzzi was being followed by the police?” It was at that point, he said, that the former agent “lost control” and struck him. The blow was strong enough to also send Giletti’s phone flying into the street, damaging it.
Despite the physical confrontation, Giletti has no intention of filing charges. He commented: “I’m a street journalist — I know what can happen when you ask uncomfortable questions.”
