UPDATED: Major Saudi Aramco facility attacked

Drone attacks targeted a major Saudi Aramco processing facility in Buqyaq  and oilfield in Khurais  in eastern Saudi Arabia Saturday, the Interior Ministry said, sparking a huge fire at one of the sites before dawn.

A spokesman for the Iran-aligned Houthi group in Yemen said it had deployed 10 drones in the attacks.

The military spokesman, Yahya Sarea, told al-Masirah TV, which is owned by the Houthi movement and is based in Beirut, that further attacks could be expected in the future.

He said Saturday’s attack was one of the biggest operations the Houthi forces had undertaken inside Saudi Arabia and was carried out in “co-operation with the honourable people inside the kingdom”.

The fires began after the sites were “targeted by drones,” the Interior Ministry said in a statement carried by the state-run Saudi Press Agency.

Buqyaq is some 330 kilometres northeast of the Saudi capital, Riyadh.

It wasn’t clear if there were any injuries in the assault on the processing plant in Buqyaq and at the Khurais oil field.
