Venezuela’s New Government: Transition Under Delcy Rodriguez

Venezuela’s interim president, Delcy Rodriguez, has begun shaping her new government following the ouster of Nicolas Maduro. On Monday, Rodriguez appointed several cabinet members. She met with Laura Dogu, Washington’s top diplomat in Caracas. They discussed the country’s transition and future relations with the United States.
While the details of the “transition” remain unclear, the US has outlined plans for stabilisation, economic recovery, and reconciliation. Despite Maduro’s removal by US forces, many officials from his administration remain in place. Venezuela’s foreign minister, Yvan Gil, said they will focus diplomatic efforts on resolving longstanding differences with the US. Energy, trade, and politics are key agenda items.
Rodriguez’s cabinet appointments include former foreign minister Felix Plasencia as Venezuela’s new envoy to Washington. This signals a potential thaw in relations after years of diplomatic rifts. Daniella Cabello is the daughter of influential interior minister Diosdado Cabello. She was named tourism minister. This move is seen as consolidating support from powerful factions within the government. Rodriguez also recently restructured the military leadership, appointing new regional commanders and dismissing key Maduro allies.
Meanwhile, opposition leader Maria Corina Machado expressed willingness to meet with Rodriguez. She wants to discuss a transition timeline. However, she criticized the interim government as a continuation of the previous regime’s practices.
