Corporate Dispatch Malta Newspaper Review

Good morning,

These are the headlines from Malta’s Newspapers:

The Times follows a political event on Sunday during which Prime Minister Joseph Muscat revealed that today’s budget will not take anything away from the public and will address challenges earmarked in the PL electoral programme.

L-Orizzont also quotes the Prime Minister who described the measures in the budget as a sustainable plan for a new generation of Maltese. Meanwhile, Muscat said the Labour Party is the only one with a vision.

In-Nazzjon says that that there is expectation for the budget to offer practical solutions to a range issues including rising cost of living, high housing prices, traffic congestion and environmental degradation.

The Independent asks Energy Minister Joe Mizzi about plans for the Enemed site in Birżebbuġa once the oil tanks are decommissioned next year. Mizzi said the case is being discussed by the ministry.

The Times quotes St Julian’s mayor Albert Buttigieg who said that the village core in the locality is ‘under siege’ by developers. He complained that there are presently seven pending applications despite the zone having been declared an Urban Conservation Area.

The Independent speaks to Environment Minister Jose Herrera after photos of a land surveying exercise on the foreshore in Xgħajra surfaced on social media. The minister denied any connection to land reclamation.

In-Nazzjon carries a story about the Malta Freeport where it says overtime has decreased to ‘almost none’ pushing take-home salaries down. The paper says that the government could not find a solution after Maersk reduced its operations in Malta.

L-Orizzont follows charity ship Ocean Viking which rescued 176 people stranded at sea in two operations over the weekend. The migrants are currently aboard the vessel waiting to be transferred to a safe port.
