Two-year-old boy who had fallen down a well in Southern India found dead after four day rescue operation

A two-year-old boy, who had fallen down a well in southern India on Friday, has been found dead.

Early on Tuesday officials in Tamil Nadu said Sujith Wilson’s body had been retrieved in a decomposed state, following an 82-hour rescue operation lasting four days.

The child, who fell into the 600 ft borewell while playing near his house at Nadukattupatti on Friday evening, was initially stuck at a depth of 35 feet but drifted further to over 90 feet with efforts to rescue him commencing last evening.

Heavy machinery had been used to try to dig a second hole parallel to the one the child fell into. Efforts to rescue the boy involved German-made drilling machines, firefighters, rescue workers and oxygen supplies but they were slowed down by the rocky soil and rain.
