The death toll in the major fire incident in Delhi on Sunday morning has reached 32, confirmed official sources of the Delhi Fire Service (DFS).

The fire broke out inside a four-storey commercial building in Filmistan area of north Delhi.

Most of those died were labourers, who were sleeping when the fire broke out. The cause of the fire is not known yet. Most victims died due to suffocation, confirmed an official of the DFS.

According to the sources at the Control Room of the DFS, at least 45 people with fire injuries were rescued from inside the ill-fated building and admitted in different hospitals.

Around 35 fire tenders have been put into service to douse the fire. Latest reports say that the fire fighting operation is over, and relief and rescue work is still being carried out.
