Alleged Chinese spy who befriended Prince Andrew is ‘tip of iceberg’, Tory MP says

A leading China-sceptic MP has warned that an alleged Chinese spy who forged ties with Prince Andrew represents just “the tip of the iceberg” in Beijing’s efforts to infiltrate the UK.

Iain Duncan Smith, former Conservative leader, plans to seek an urgent Commons question on Monday to press ministers on the matter. He criticised Keir Starmer’s push for closer relations with Beijing, arguing that it demonstrated “a massive amount of weakness to China.”

If granted by Speaker Lindsay Hoyle, Duncan Smith’s question may prompt other MPs, including those from Reform UK, to name the alleged spy. Under a UK court order, the individual can only be publicly referred to as H6.

Duncan Smith dismissed suggestions that the situation had been resolved after the man was identified by security services and barred from entering the UK, stressing that the wider threat remains.
