Another glum Saturday for the UK as 888 lives lost to coronavirus in a day

888 patients have lost their lives in hospitals in the United Kingdom after having contracted the novel coronavirus. All but 104 of these deaths happened in England.

In today’s briefing, the Department of Health announced that 15,464 persons have perished so far. This puts the country in fifth place in this unwanted global table.

More than 114,000 persons have contracted the virus around the country so far.

Meanwhile, pressure continues to mount on the Government to say how many other persons died after contracting the deadly virus in care homes. Care England, a trade body which represents 3,800 homes hosting over 50,000 residents, said today that it estimates that 7,500 people died in such residences.

The most recent official figures from the Office for National Statistics, dating a couple of weeks back, indicate “only” 217 deaths so far. Experts highly doubt this number considering that health authorities have confirmed outbreaks in more than 3,000 care homes in the sole England.
