At least 17 inmates killed after Russian strike hits Ukrainian prison in Zaporizhzhia region

At least 17 inmates were killed and over 80 injured after a Russian airstrike hit the Bilenkivska Correctional Facility in Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region late Monday, according to Ukrainian officials. The strike, involving four guided bombs, left 42 seriously wounded and damaged nearby residential buildings.

One prison staff member was also among the injured.

Andriy Yermak, head of Ukraine’s presidential office, condemned the attack as “another war crime,” urging for stronger economic and military action against Putin’s regime.

The attack came just after U.S. President Donald Trump announced he was reducing his proposed 50-day truce deadline for Russia to 10–12 days, citing ongoing Russian aggression and disappointment with Putin’s response to U.S. mediation efforts.
