At least eight children killed in Afghanistan by roadside bomb near their school

At least eight children have been killed by a roadside bomb near their school in Afghanistan.

The victims of Saturday’s attack in Takhar province were all aged between nine and 15 years old.

Local police say the bomb’s intended target was likely Afghan security forces who often use the road.

The area is controlled by the Taliban and security forces have been trying to bring the area back under the authority of the government, according to Khalil Asir, a spokesman for the provincial police.

No one has yet admitted being behind the attack.
