Belgium’s UFO hotline recorded 237 reports of unidentified flying objects in 2025, according to its annual report published on Monday.
The Belgische UFO-meldpunt, which has been analysing unusual aerial phenomena since 2007 with the support of five scientists, noted a 44% increase compared to 2024. The rise followed a drop from 227 sightings in 2023 to 161 in 2024, with most reports logged in March and September.
The March surge was largely attributed to excess fuel released by SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket during a satellite launch, creating a spiral-shaped illuminated cloud, while other reports were linked to skytracers and Starlink satellite trains.
Most cases were ultimately explained as misidentifications of aircraft or stars, with only a small number in November linked to drones near military bases and airports, as a separate report by the French-speaking Cobeps is expected shortly.
