Blast seen in Russian city as Kyiv and Moscow launch scores of drones overnight

Russia’s air defence systems intercepted dozens of drones overnight in what the Defence Ministry described as a large-scale Ukrainian attack across multiple regions.

According to the ministry, 130 fixed-wing drones were intercepted or destroyed between 11pm on 14 December and 7am on 15 December (Moscow time), over Russian territory and the Caspian Sea. A further 16 drones were reportedly downed between 7am and 8am.

The ministry said the highest number of interceptions took place over the Astrakhan region, followed by Bryansk and the Moscow region, including several drones allegedly heading towards the capital. Other regions cited included Belgorod, Rostov, Kaluga, Tula, Kalmykia, Kursk, Oryol, Ryazan and Tambov, as well as the Caspian Sea.

Local authorities reported damage in parts of the Rostov region, including Rostov-on-Don, Kamensk-Shakhtinsky and Novoshakhtinsk. Governor Yury Slyusar said residential buildings and two vehicles were damaged. One man suffered burns to his hands after his car caught fire. In the Kamensky district, damage to a power line reportedly caused a temporary shutdown of a water intake facility and pumping station.

The information was compiled by Russia’s state news agency TASS, citing official sources. Ukraine has not commented on the reports, and the claims could not be independently verified.
