Boris Johnson and Carrie Symonds announce birth of baby boy

Boris Johnson and Carrie Symonds have announced the birth of a “healthy baby boy at a London hospital earlier this morning”.

Both mother and baby are doing very well, their spokesman said.

Earlier there was speculation as to why Johnson was not going to attend question time in the House of Commons.

The couple announced at the end of February that Ms Symonds was pregnant and they had got engaged.

They are the first unmarried couple to move into Downing Street together.

Mr Johnson returned to work on Monday, after recovering from coronavirus.

Ms Symonds also suffered symptoms of the disease.
