British man arrested after car drives into Liverpool fans at trophy parade, injuring dozens

A 53-year-old man has been arrested after a car struck multiple people in Liverpool city centre on Monday evening, shortly after celebrations for Liverpool Football Club’s Premier League title win.

The incident occurred just after 6 p.m., following the conclusion of a victory parade. Images from the scene showed a heavy police and emergency services presence.

“We can confirm the man arrested is a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area,” local police said in a statement.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the scenes “appalling,” adding: “My thoughts are with all those injured or affected. I’m being kept updated and urge everyone to allow the police the space they need to investigate.”

According to the North West Ambulance Service, 27 people were taken to four hospitals, with additional individuals arriving independently. One adult and one child sustained serious injuries, while 20 others were treated at the scene. A paramedic was also struck but was not injured.

Police say they believe the incident was isolated and confirmed it is not being treated as terrorism.
