These are the main news from Malta’s news portals.

A man was found dead in a Xlendi apartment on Thursday evening. A police forensics team was deployed soon after the grim discovery was made as investigators sought to establish the cause of death. Times of Malta reports that the police said the victim was an elderly foreigner who had not been heard of for two days.

The Gozo Business Chamber welcomed the joint motion seeking parliamentary approval for the Gozo-Malta Tunnel. MaltaToday says that the Chamber reminded MPs that both parties promised a permanent link in the last election.

Tourism Minister Konrad MIzzi said that the revised deal with the Corinthia Group over the transfer of public land in St George’s Bay will introduce new parameters, not methodology. The Malta Independent says that the minister would not give details of the updated agreement.

Hourly labour costs in Malta registered the lowest increase in the EU between 2017 and 2018. LovinMalta quotes a Eurostat report showing a slim growth of 0.4 percent; the next lowest increase was registered by Finland, at 1.2 percent.

Two new members have been appointed in a reshuffle at the Planning Board, which decides on major development projects. The Times reveals that incoming member Duncan Mifsud is the architect behind the €4.2 valuation of the Café Premier controversy in 2013.

TVM says that a fire in Birkirkara that engulfed four cars is being treated as a premeditated attack by investigators. The news portal reports that the first vehicle to catch fire was parked right outside a warehouse linked to suspected kingpin Jordan Azzopardi.

A second woman was evacuated by the Armed Forces from aboard the Alan Kurdi rescue ship last night. Newsbook reports that the pregnant 23-year-old suffered an epileptic attack after eight days out at sea.

The wreckage of a boat that sank in the Kalkara marina last week has been recovered from the seabed for investigation. Net News reports that the owner cooperated fully with the police and Transport Malta.

New medical equipment has been unveiled at Mater Dei hospital, reports One News. Health Minister Chris Fearne said that the €700,000 permits detailed surgeries without the need to make large incisions on patients.

Reporters Without Borders is proposing the appointment of an EU Commissioner for media freedom and pluralism. The Shift News publishes a 10-point plan by the journalist’s organisation ahead of the European Parliament elections in May.
