An explosion in Kalkara marina set two yachts on fire and injured two people aboard. TVM says that one of the yachts sunk while the other was towed out into the sea away from other boats. Four people were on the boats at the time of the accident.

MaltaToday says that the Nationalist Party is demanding an explanation by the government over a €70 million deficit, when projections were pointing towards an economic surplus. The party said there is a shortfall of more than €100 million between budgeted and collected income tax.

The Democratic Party will boycott the parliamentary vote to appoint the new President of Malta, this evening.  LovinMalta says that the party’s objection is not toward George Vella but towards the government’s refusal to install a three-thirds majority system.

The European Commission approved a plan by the Water Services Corporation to raise the quality and efficiency of drinking water systems. One News says that the €74 million project will save the country four billion litres of water annually.

A man was stopped by the Italian Guardia di Finanza in Sicily just before he was getting onto the ferry to Malta, carrying 10 kilogrammes of cannabis. Newsbook says that the substance has a street value of some €90,000.

The Commissioner of Standards in Public Life said that no ministerial code was breached by the organisation of a party at Girgenti Palace by Prime Minister Joseph Muscat. The Malta Independent says that Commissioner George Hyzler was asked to investigate the case by MEP candidate Arnold Cassola.

A couple has been under protection order after admitting to having assaulted activist Clemence Dujardin in front of the spontaneous Daphne Caruana Galizia memorial in December. In its report, The Times says that Dujardin is married to blogger Manuel Delia.
