Corporate Dispatch Malta Newspaper Review

Good morning,

These are the headlines from Malta’s Newspapers:

The Independent publishes an interview with MFSA CEO Joseph Cuschieri who said the financial services watchdog intends to become financially independent from the government within five years.

The Times leads with a 30-year sentence given to a man who admitted to the killing of 41-year-old Caroline Magri in 2016. The accused was also ordered to pay €40,000 in court fees within 60 days.

L-Orizzont also follows the case and says that Djibril Ganiou pleaded guilty to charges to avoid trial by jury. The 36-year-old from Togo was reported to have had a troubled relationship with the victim.

In-Nazzjon reports on the story, too, and says that the mother of eight, originally from Mqabba, was found dead in her Ta’ Giorni apartment with her throat slashed and multiple stab wounds across her body.

The Times asks Minister Ian Borg about any ambitions to become leader of the Labour Party. Borg avoided the questions and said that he wants Joseph Muscat to remain leader ‘for many years to come’.

The Independent covers the launch of a policy for the teaching of Maltese as a foreign language. Education Minister Evarist Bartolo said that introducing the language to the national curriculum will help non-Maltese integrate better into the culture.

L-Orizzont reports on a traffic accident involving a car and a motorbike in Għajnsielem leaving a 43-year old Italian man dead. The condition of a 50-year old woman driving the car remains unknown.

In-Nazzjon quotes PN Leader Adrian Delia who said that the elderly are a treasure chest of values, memories and experiences and must be treated with dignity. Delia was visiting residents at St Vincent de Paul.

L-Orizzont reveals that the government is stocking up on medicines imported from the UK to prepare for the uncertainties of Brexit. Meanwhile, some 1,900 of the 2,000 medicinal products bought from the UK will now be sourced from other countries.
