Corporate Dispatch Malta Newspaper Review

Good morning,

These are the headlines from Malta’s Newspapers:

The Independent reveals that Europol is still involved in the investigation into the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia. The journalist was killed by a car bomb near her home in Bidnija two years ago today.

The Times speaks to Daphne Caruana Galizia’s sister Corinne Vella who said that the country has learnt nothing from the journalist’s assassination. Vella believes that criminals still enjoy impunity while investigative journalists are left isolated.

L-Orizzont picks up a budget recommendation proposing a roof over the Royal Theatre in Valletta. The paper says Valletta mayor Alfred Zammit, Valletta Cultural Agency chair Jason Micallef and Arts Council chair Albert Marshall agree with an enclosed structure.

In-Nazzjon leads with Opposition Leader Adrian Delia’s demand for steps to be taken against ministers Edward Scicluna, Konrad Mizzi and Chris Cardona by the Prime Minister after the Constitutional Court declared they are suspected of breaking criminal law.

The Times says that the court of appeals turned down a Freedom of Information request by the newspaper to access a memorandum of understanding signed with Vitals Global Healthcare before the contract went for public tender.

The Independent questions Finance Minister Edward Scicluna about the effectiveness of the COLA mechanism. The minister said government would welcome a discussion of alternatives with trade unions.

L-Orizzont publishes reactions by Gordon Cordina, Alfred Mifsud and Philip von Brockdorff on the budget 2020. The economists welcome the measures favouring pensioners and the environment while praising the economic performance this year.

In-Nazzjon covers a TV interview with PN Leader Adrian Delia who said that, after the budget, families still have to find ways to cope with rising cost of living. Delia said the measures are ‘a far cry’ from the Prime Minister’s promises of wealth.
