These are the stories on Malta’s newspapers’ front pages.

he Times reveals that the Commissioner for Standards in Public Life is mulling setting rules on lobbying, gifts, insider information and the use of public resources. Commissioner George Hyzler told the paper the office is also seeking to update the code of ethics for civil servants.

The Malta Independent says that the 733 university students who voluntarily participated in a survey on abortion by the Students Council represented a ‘comparatively high response rate’. With a population of 11,000, a rate of 500 is considered representative.

The Times says that three teenagers accused of terrorist activities when they ‘seized’ the Ei Hiblu 1 tanker of the coast of Libya, are behind held in a high-security division for adults at Corradino. Lawyer Neil Falzon says this represents a breach of the magistrate’s orders

The Malta Independent quotes a report by the Malta Developers Association showing that asking prices for properties increased by an average 20 percent between 2016 and 2017. Meanwhile the housing affordability index has decreased by between 8 and 17 percent.

In-Nazzjon, too, carries a story on the study conducted by KPMG and says that the price for a medium-sized apartment increased by 24 percent in a year. The paper says people are being caught between the rising property prices and rental rates.

L-Orizzont speaks to Emidio Vella, Project Manager for the construction of the new primary school in Qawra. Vella says that the project is developing at a steady pace and assures the paper that the job will either be done well or not done at all.

L-Orizzont reports that Toly is investing €20 million to build a new plant in Bulebel. The new facility will be spread on four storeys covering 20,000 meters squares and has been designed with modern ecological features, including the harvesting of around three million litres of water.

In-Nazzjon quotes PN Leader Adrian Delia who said at a political event that the ‘Socialist government’ lost its socialist soul and only has a greed for power.
