Corporate Dispatch Morning Briefing

Good morning

These are the morning headlines for today

Malta Today reveals that Foreign Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela will today testify in court in a hearing relating to a multi-million smuggling case. Suspect Darren Debono filed a judicial injunction against the government after attempts to impose UN sanctions on him.

The Times says that migrants living in Ħal Far’s China House have been evicted after the landlord gave notice of refurbishment works. The landlord said that they occupied the property without permission and several attempts to force them out were unsuccessful.

The Malta Independent asked Transport Minister Ian Borg whether the permit for the Santa Luċija underpass has been discussed at cabinet level. In his reply, Borg said that the cabinet does not discuss permits.

In-Nazzjon says that Transport Minister Ian Borg is ignoring criticism of capital projects while insisting that the government is sensitive to trees and the environment. The paper reports on a new wave disapproval concering the proposed roundabout in Santa Luċija.

The Times reports that the developers proposing a sprawling villa in an ODZ Qala area have informed the Planning Commission that plans will be ‘significantly scaled down’ after the paper published documents indicating possible irregularities in the application process.

The Malta Independent picks up an announcement on Facebook by Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi that government reached an agreement with beach operators in Għadira, who have accepted to free up space used by deckchairs.

L-Orizzont also features the agreement with Għadira operators and says that new plans will be implemented from this week. Minister Konrad Mizzi said that the arrangement will provide more access to people.

Malta Today says that Transport Malta removed two boats that were blocking a landing place on a small beach in Birżebbuġa. The paper says this is part of an exercise by the authorities to clear obstructions to landing places.

L-Orizzont quotes an unnamed gynaecologist who recommends that boys are vaccinated against Human Papillomavirus, too. Health Minister Chris Fearne does not exclude plans to provide free HPV medication in the future.

In-Nazzjon follows the court case against Jordan Azzopardi, accused of operating a drugs trafficking network. The court heard that Azzopardi cashed in fake banknotes and converted garages into drug spots.
