Earthquake rattles Benevento in Italy, schools closed as a precaution

Several tremors early Monday morning rattled the Italian province of Benevento.

The first quake, of magnitude 3.4, had its epicenter in the municipality of San Leucio del Sannio . Two minutes after the second shock, magnitude 3.2, still in the same municipality. Shortly after 9:50, still two more tremors, the strongest of magnitude 3.4. Residents in Avellino and Naples also felt the tremors but so far there have been no reports of damages or victims.

Many people poured into the streets in Ceppaloni and San Lucio Del Sannio, where for the past weeks there have been minor earth rumblings with the strongest being registered on the 25th November.

The mayor of Benevento Clemente Mastella, in agreement with the prefecture and with the Civil Protection, ordered the immediate closure of schools and public buildings with the exception of the emergency services and structures necessary for the management of the interventions.
