Enthusiasm high amongst the participants of the 10th edition of the BOV Volleyball Marathon in aid of Dar Tal-Providenza

Commitment, passion and love for the cause are the key values which drive the 60 persons who are currently doing the 24 hour trial for the BOV/Marigold Foundation volleyball marathon in aid of Id-Dar Tal-Providenza. The 10th edition of this marathon will take place on the grounds of Id-Dar Tal-Providenza between the 29th of June and the 1st of July.
The 24 hour trial started on Saturday at noon and will come to an end on Sunday. During this session, the athletes from which the final selection will be done, get a flavour of the endurance required and also the atmosphere which they will experience during the 53 hours of the mentioned marathon.
Apart from the natural feelings of tiredness, one can also witness the drive stemming from the team-spirit created amongst the participants who over the past hours had to endure the wind, the sun and all in between which the weatherman decided to reserve for this weekend.
The Director of Dar tal-Providenza, Fr Martin Micallef said that the commitment and dedication of those who chose to take this year’s challenge reflects the through mission of the Volleyball Marathon.
“The Marathon is an annual fund-raising event for Id-Dar tal-Providenza that really puts altruism to the fore. This marathon sees sportsmanship and volunteerism working hand-in-hand with the sole aim of raising funds to ensure that this Home continues to offer a family-like environment for its residents, who now number 115”, said Fr Micallef.
He went on to explain that, “The Home’s mission has always been that of integrating its residents as much as possible within the social fibre of the Maltese society, an aim which is being reached primarily through the setting up of homes in different localities. Here the residents are able to lead a more independent life with all the support they need.”
