EU agrees for Eurozone zone budget

The EU has decided to give the eurozone its own budget, accepting a scaled-down version of a core French idea to reform the currency bloc.

FT reports that the EU leaders’ summit on Friday agreed that a ringfenced eurozone budget would make bloc more competitive and help reduce economic differences between its member states. EU governments will decide on the budget’s main features by June.

France’s President Emmanuel Macron had pushed for a ringfenced budget to reinforce the eurozone — which includes 19 of the EU’s 28 countries — by funding common projects in areas such as infrastructure, transport and employment.
