France will veto any meaningless Brexit extension

France will veto a further delay to Brexit unless the UK ends the chaos and tells the EU what it wants, the country’s foreign minister has warned.

Jean-Yves Le Drian said that in the current circumstances, it’s ‘no’. We are not going to go through this every three months.”

In March, France adopted a similar stance where it had said it was ready to veto any British request for a Brexit delay that either kicks the can down the road without offering a way out of its deadlock or imperils European Union institutions.

The Elysee official’s comments, back then, were the strongest indication yet from Macron’s office that France will not agree to an extension beyond the scheduled March 29 leave date simply to save Britain from a chaotic exit with no deal.
