French far right says government spurned budget talks

France’s far-right National Rally (RN) accused the government on Sunday of rejecting its budget demands, increasing the likelihood of a no-confidence vote that could oust Prime Minister Michel Barnier.

RN leader Marine Le Pen, who had given Barnier until Monday to agree to the party’s proposals, said the government had “ended discussions,” escalating the standoff.

The RN seeks inflation-linked pension increases, while Barnier has proposed smaller hikes to cut costs.

Last week, Barnier scrapped a planned electricity tax increase, but the RN insists on further concessions, warning of government collapse if their demands are not met.
