Frenchman gets 20 years in prison after organising wife mass rape

A French court on Thursday convicted Dominique Pelicot of aggravated rape for orchestrating the mass rape of his now ex-wife, Gisele Pelicot, over nearly a decade. The trial, which lasted over three months, has deeply shocked France.

Pelicot, 72, admitted to drugging Gisele and recruiting dozens of strangers online to assault her. He was convicted to 20 years in prison.

Fifty other men, aged 27 to 74, were also on trial, including one who did not abuse Gisele but raped his own wife with Pelicot’s assistance. They received sentences of varying length.

Pelicot was found guilty of making and distributing images of a sexual nature of his daughter Caroline, as well as two other women, the wives of his sons.
