The Times reports that the number of prison inmates grew by more than 80 percent over a decade, according to a Council of Europe study. There were 74 inmates for every 100,000 inhabitants in 2005, with the figure increasing to 134 by 2015.
The Malta Independent speaks to Commissioner for Gender-Based and Domestic Violence Simone Cini who said that shelters welcome many foreign women, whose countries of origin often do not protect against violence. Commissioner Cini also said that the law prohibits victims from being sent back home after filing a police report for abuse.
The Malta Independent covers a debate in parliament about an Opposition motion calling for a public inquiry into the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia, as well as the removal of the current Police Commissioner and Attorney General. Opposition Leader Adrian Delia said in session that the inquiry should establish whether the killing could have been avoided.

The Times says that the courts turned down an appeal by developers to build a residence in Wied Għomor. This was the third time the project has been blocked after the Planning Authority board and the planning appeals tribunal rejected the plans, citing concern for the protection of the valley between Swieqi and San Ġwann.
L-Orizzont says that the economic growth registered in the third quarter compared to the same period last year was four times bigger than the EU average. The paper says that the latest NSO statistics show a €280 million increase in the economy.
L-Orizzont reports that genitourinary medical consultant Dr Philip Carabott is urging government to introduce Prep – a pill with 96 percent effectiveness in the prevention of HIV transmission.
Another story in L-Orizzont quotes Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi who says he intends to contest the next general election because he wants to remain part of a ‘positive change’ for the country. The Minster was being interviewed on TV programme Xtra on Thursday.
In-Nazzjon says that Libyan nationals are ready to testify against Neville Gafa’ in the alleged case of medical visa racketeering. Speaking on a TV programme, Alleanza Bidla leader Ivan Grech Mintoff said that the police are not being allowed to carry out investigations related to this case.
