Video released on Wednesday by the European Union’s border agency Frontex reveals the moment when two men were first spotted lying aboard a dinghy floating in the Mediterranean.
On Monday, a Frontex plane patrolling the Central Mediterranean spotted a rubber boat adrift in the middle of the sea with two people on board.
Frontex immediately alerted the Maltese Rescue Coordination Centre which sent a helicopter to the spot with two rescue swimmers.
The Armed Forces of Malta said that two migrants were found on a dinghy on Monday. One of them was dead, the other was in critical condition.
A still image of the video footage was released on Tuesday by the Armed Forces of Malta. The AFM did not give the gender of the two persons, neither their nationality. It did not say where the rescue operation took place.
